Searching Inside 'Bugs

Use these methods when you want to find pages at 'Bugs (or any site) that discuss specific terms.

Best Method

Use Google to search within the site. The easiest way to do this is to use the Google Toolbar. If you don't already have the Google Toolbar installed follow these steps: Install . Firefox is a free open-source browser. Firefox runs faster than Internet Explorer and has patched many of the security holes. Available for Win, Mac & Linux.

  • Once the Toolbar is installed you can enter your search term in the Google Search box then select Current Site under the toolbar Search button. You'll get a list of pages at 'Bugs that use your term. Current Site can also be configued as a toolbar button so it is always handy.

Next Best Method

Use the "Advance Search" function of search engines like Google or Yahoo to search within a site.

  • This is the second best option if your browser does not support the Google toolbar. Use the Advance Search function to search within of a particular site. For example, go to www.google.com and click on Advance Search. Enter livingwithbugs.com into the "Domain/Site:" box, then enter your search terms.

Or (faster than Next Best but harder to remember)

Use the "site:" syntax of most search engines to search within a particular site.

  • You can bypass the Advance Search function and enter your site-specific search directly. In the search box, on some search engines, enter, for example, "head lice" site:livingwithbugs.com. Check your search engine to see if it supports this method.

Remember, search engines act on individual words unless you enclose the search terms in quotes ("). So head lice will return a lot of sites about "head" and "lice". If you want head lice, enclose your search term in quotes, for example "head lice".
