Pest Control References
- Pests of people and their property -
|
There are numerous insects that impact people and their property. This is the realm of "urban entomology". In the past urban entomologists often focused their attentions on two insects - termites and cockroaches. Now the field is expanded to include structural pests, like termites, carpenter ants and powderpost beetles. Nuisance pests and some medically important pests are sometimes included as well. Garden and landscape pests also are now included in urban entomology.
Happily, the emphasis in recent years has been on least-toxic approaches to the management of these pests. "Least-toxic" means minimal toxicity to people and domesticated animals as well as low environmental impact. Methods tagged "least-toxic" must, however, still be effective.
